My sincerest thanks to all our candidates, our volunteers and voters who helped make our election a success throughout Lorain County and Ohio.
Very briefly, let me make a few observations about our Lorain County results:
The Very Good. Republican Justice Sharon Kennedy winning the chief justice seat along with the re-election of Justices Pat Fisher and Pat DeWine, was huge. Shortly, Governor Mike DeWine will appoint a replacement for Sharon Kennedy’s seat and thus giving a 4-3 Republican v. Democrat Supreme Court composition. Though current Chief Justice Maureen O'Connor was elected as a Republican, she adjudicated like a Democrat, especially regarding our redistricting. Going forward, new maps may be redrawn and we'll see whether or not the Supreme Court will intervene. I doubt that they do so.
The Good. At the top of our GOP ticket, Governor DeWine helped 17 out of 21 Republicans win . Though, U.S. Senate candidate J.D. Vance lost the county 51-49%, he won Ohio by seven points. There is still a chance that our county commission candidate Jeff Riddell will win his election once the late absenteeand provisionalballots are counted. He now has a 320-vote lead for 50.2%. We also helped our 9th District Court of Appeals candidates win the county AND their races. Scot Stevenson’s 52% win helped him upset incumbent judge Tom Teodosio.
The Bad. Not much bad insofar as our candidates for auditor and 53rd state representative lost to incumbents, although by margins of 4 and 5%. Historically Democrats have won these races by double digits.I thank them for stepping forward for the first time and encourage them to consider future races.
The Ugly. As in 2020, we are currently seeing debacles in the conduct of elections in Arizona and Nevada. It is appalling that vote results are not available by midnight as in many other states and countries other than the U.S.. For the good of our Constitutional republic and individual rights, mail-in balloting should be limited. Thankfully, Ohio can count on timely election results, due to Republican Secretary of State Frank LaRose and our local boards of elections.
Our party at the local, state, and county levels has a lot of work to do going forward to our 2024 elections. Your help is requested beginning now. Thank you. Good luck and God Bless.
