Phil Van Treuren, Candidate for Lorain County Commissioner
My name is Phil Van Treuren. I’m a two-term City Councilman At-Large in
Amherst, and I’m running for Lorain County Commissioner.
I’m a proud father and husband, and my family has lived in Lorain County for
more than a century. My great-great grandfather came to Lorain in 1889 to
work at the steel mill and take care of his family, and we have been here ever
since.
I’m running for Lorain County Commissioner for a very simple reason: because I
think that our elected officials need to lead by example when it comes to being
fiscally responsible and showing respect for taxpayer dollars.
I hear some politicians talk about how we should spend the government’s money,
but to me, the government doesn’t have any money. It’s the
taxpayers’ money, and government needs to be accountable to the people who
work hard every day to take care of their families.
As you may know, Lorain County is facing a $10.5 million deficit in 2013. I
don’t think that the County Commissioners should spend a single dollar of
taxpayer money unless it’s absolutely necessary.
I absolutely love being an underdog. I love fighting for what’s right,
no matter what the odds are.
I’m looking forward to talking with many of you and hearing your thoughts on
how we can make Lorain County a better place for our families and children, and
I’ll working as hard as I can to make all of you proud.
